MSCI EAFE Index Calendar Returns & Drawdown

Disciplined long-term investors should keep in mind that market drawdowns are a common occurrence in any given year. Examining foreign stock returns for developed markets over the last 20 years, on average, the MSCI EAFE Index experienced an average calendar year drawdown of approximately 17.8%. When looking at data since 1988, the average calendar year drawdown was a bit lower at 15.7%.
